Many application put an asterisk (*) in front of the document name in the window title to mark it "dirty". I believe that's the best approach here.

Hi miles,

I think what you said about the diskette icon not being the best choice is spot on. I was initially thinking about something different, like a green light icon for a non-modified state and red light icon for a modified state (just like traffic lights). I used the diskette icon as a place holder simply because I had run out of Hack Week time. I will definitely come back to it and try to come up with a better image to use.

>does clicking on a diskette actually save the document?

Actually yes. :-) Well, not a single-click, but a double-click saves the current document. I didn't want to use single-click because all the other status bar window uses double-click to execute a command (such as launching a dialog etc), so I wanted to be consistent there.

Great, Kohei.
I do think the first feature is great.
I am not so overwhelmed about the second one - a diskette means saving to users, so a diskette in full color would mean that OOo is just saving a document and a b/w diskette would probably mean that saving is disabled. I would suggest some other icon or a combination of several icons, like a diskette and an exclamation mark or something. Also, does clicking on a diskette actually save the document? That would be the most logical action/reaction/expectation of a newbie user, I guess.
Anyway, thanks for your great work!
